Ultimate guide to South Calgary neighbourhoods featuring top communities, homes, schools, amenities, and lifestyle insights for buyers and those exploring where to live in Calgary

The Ultimate Guide To South Calgary Neighbourhoods

South Calgary has been a big part of my life. I have lived in this area when I was younger, and since becoming a realtor in 2012, I have spent most of my career helping people buy and sell in these neighbourhoods. I know the streets, the parks, the schools, and how each community actually feels day to day.

This guide gives you a quick, practical overview of every neighbourhood in the CREB south region. The profiles are short, easy to compare, and written to help you understand the lifestyle in each area.

If you are still deciding on Calgary as a whole, you can also read my assortment of guides on living in Calgary. View them here.

What to Expect When Living in South Calgary

South Calgary is quiet, residential, and easy to navigate. It is flatter than the west side and has fewer industrial pockets than the inner city, which gives it a comfortable suburban feel. Most streets are calm, schools and parks are close by, and it is generally straightforward to drive or get around, especially now that the ring road is complete.

Calgary CREB 2025 community map displaying every neighbourhood across the city, with colour coded regions for the city centre, north, south, east, west, north east, north west, and south east districts.

Daily life is simple in this part of the city. Macleod Trail anchors the main shopping areas, including Chinook Centre, Southcentre, and the Shawnessy shopping area. Parks are another major draw, with Fish Creek Park, the Glenmore Reservoir, the Bow River, and Weaselhead Flats all offering great outdoor space. Rockyview General Hospital serves the region, and the CTrain line along Macleod Trail gives several communities strong transit access.
